In the West, Lolita clothing is as rare as Kobe beef (haha): the websites are hieroglyphic; the companies refuse to ship outside Japan; online sales are unpredictable. What a delight that the Chief Designers of Sweet Lolita brand Angelic Pretty will be appearing in L.A. from November 9 to 11!
Maki and Asuka began working for the brand in 2001 and 2003; Asuka initially came to the company as their designer for knits ('cutsews'), bags, and accessories; Maki was originally hired as an illustrator while she attended vocational school. Since then, their duties have greatly increased, and Angelic Pretty is recognized as a leading purveyor of Sweet Lolita fashion (which emphasizes Victorian-style dress and aims to convey the look and innocence of ornate porcelain).
Maki and Asuka will be Guests of Honor during Pacific Media Expo (PMX), a tradeshow dedicated to promoting the Pacific Rim's entertainment/media industries. They will discuss their work and preview the fall line at a Fashion Brunch, and participate in a panel open to general attendees. Don't forget your credit card - you'll be able to buy Angelic Pretty clothes in an exclusive boutique, open only during PMX. (Items will sell at current USD/Yen exchange rates with no markup, but California sales tax will apply.)
The tradeshow takes place from Nov 9-11 at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport. To register, visit the Pacific Media Expo website.
