I'm an interior design maniac, especially with regard to clothing boutiques... and especially those in Tokyo! Here the first of a series of glimpses inside the stores of our favorite Gothic Lolita designers.
One of h.NAOTO's more recent spin-offs is 8 Club. The concept: "Sexy and cute! [...] Loads of wear, goods, and accessories with super elegant touches of elegant laces and frills, as well as prints and embroidery of the familiar butterfly motif! A shop that's cute and a little sexy 'n' naughty, just like a girl's bedroom."
The 8 Club flagship in Shibuya has a bordello flair. The store carries clothes from the Honey line ("cute and sort of naughty collection for girls") and the more exotic Roots brand "featuring feminine textures and handmade styles such as saris and beadwork."

La Carmina got a press pass for the upcoming 2008 New York Comic-Con! I've been to book, clothing, and contemporary furniture expos, but never anything related to comics. I suppose I'm a tad reluctant to enter what is considered the domain of nerds. Ah, but I will go where there is Goth Loli anything. And this year, the Gothic & Lolita Bible will have a huge presence at the NY Comic-Con: Tokyopop is presenting two discussion panels and a fashion show featuring US designers. Of course, La Carmina will provide full coverage.
More comic and manga characters are wearing costumes that are Gothic Lolita (or inspired). Many of the publishers will have a presence at the Comic-Con. At Marvel's enormous booth, you might find copies of Livewires, a series with a character named Gothic Lolita (pictured above). Publisher
Viz Media - fingers crossed that they will open a J-pop shopping center in San Francisco - is sponsoring a Manga Lounge, where one can sit and read manga (duh).
I'm not a comic book fan (if you discount the Archies of my youth) - but even I'm counting down the days to the Comic-Con. It'll be like a massive alien nightclub: 50,000 people in psychedelic outfits, nutty promotions, tons of freebies. What can I say, I love dressing up and collecting swag. Here are the Gothic & Lolita Bible events that I’ll be hitting for sure:
Friday, April 18 † 5-6 PM † Room 1E08
Panel: “Sew Successful: Owning and Operating a Successful Seamstress Business”
Tokyopop Senior Editor Jenna Winterberg and Coordinating Editor Michelle Nguyen discuss fashion entrepreneurship with designers also featured in the Saturday fashion show: Megan McHugh (of Megan Maude), Samantha Rei (of Blasphemina’s Closet), and Victoria Michel (of La Dauphine).
Saturday, April 19 † 2-3 PM † Main Event Stage
Gothic & Lolita Bible Fashion Show
Tokyopop presents an exclusive fashion show featuring current Lolita fashions from American brands Blasphemina’s Closet, In the Starlight, La Dauphine, and Megan Maude. In addition to emceeing, editors Jenna Winterberg and Michelle Nguyen will model outfits by Candy Violet.
Saturday, April 19 † 4-5 PM † Room 1E08
Panel: “Fashion Show Wrap-up and Design Discussion”
Jenna Winterberg and Michelle Nguyen discuss the creative aspects of being a designer with an emphasis on design inspiration. The panel features guests Megan McHugh, Samantha Rei, and Victoria Michel.
You can find out more about the 2008 NY Comic-Con, including schedules and special guests, on the official website. The madness runs from April 18–20 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center (655 West 34th St, between 11th Ave and West Side Highway). Weekend passes are $65, Saturday passes are $45, and Friday/Sunday passes are $40; the prices are lower if you buy them now. Let me know if you’re going! What are you planning to wear?
